  • Mission accomplished on Medicaid? (updated) - NY Daily News: The Greatern New York Hospital Association is citing a budget report from Comptroller Tom DiNapoli as evidence that state lawmakers have won the battle in controlling Medicaid costs. Dinapoli' s Financial Condition Report found that state and federal spending on health services for the poor and disabled declined 3.2%, or $1.1 billion, between fiscal years 2006-07 and 2007-08. "The Comptroller 39;s report shows that New York State has already gotten its Medicaid spending under control," GNYHA President Ken Raske said in a statement. "As the governor and state Legislature wrestle with next year's State budget, I would urge them to take a 'shared sacrifice' ; approach and look at all areas of State spending, particularly those areas where spending has increased.&quo t; The statement went on to note that spending on school aid -- $19.8 billion -- "far exceeds" the state's contribution to Medicaid of $13.3 billion. UPDATE: The Paterson administration isn't ready to declare victory yet.

  • Dental care lags among many Rochester children | democratandchr onicle.com | Democrat and Chronicle: Thousands of Rochester-area children enrolled in Medicaid have not seen a dentist in years, and there's no easy way to find the few pediatric dental offices that will accept them as patients. The limited access has had an impact. According to a nationwide report released last month by the Government Accountability Office, children on Medicaid are nearly twice as likely as other youths to have dental disease, and one in eight has never seen a dentist. Locally, between 10 percent and 54 percent of children enrolled in the two Medicaid managed care plans that provide dental coverage in Monroe County ? Excellus' BlueCross BlueShield and Fidelis Care ? have seen a dentist in the last year, according to state data.
