  • Selective 5-HT2A agonist hallucinogens: A review of pharmacologica l interaction and corollary perceptual effects: The most potent tryptamine hallucinogens ? such as DMT, psilocybin, and LSD ? are all active at the 5-HT2A receptor subtype and all produce similar visual perceptual results that are immediately recognizable as uniquely psychedelic. Although it is widely accepted that selective serotonin receptor subtype 2A agonism is directly responsible for producing the distinct hallucinations seen on a psychedelic trip, no single theory has yet explained why this is so. Utilizing what we know about psychedelic tryptamine receptor interaction, sensory processing circuits in the neocortex, and EEG scans of psychedelics in action, this review will propose a novel multi-state theory of psychedelic action which invokes a variety of neural processing mechanisms, including phase-coupled neural oscillators; network excitation, disinhibition, and destabilizatio n; recurrent feedback excitation; and neural circuit spike synchrony and brainwave

  • Serotonin as a key regulator of fear memory (8/31/2008): Serotonin (5-HT), an important neurotransmitt er, has been implicated in a wide range of disorders such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and learning and memory disorders. Recent work of CAS researchers has shown that mice lacking serotonin are less anxious compared to control animals but retain fearful memories for much longer time.

  • Seratonin: The chemistry of Well-Being: I think sleep, and then diet are the biggest factors for serotonin production. Sleep regulates Serotonin production and Melatonin production, and studies show shift workers have lowers serotonin level than people who stick to a set schedule. Also being malnourished leads to lacking the essential vitamins and aminoacids your body needs to metabolize and function(why a high sugar, and simple carb diet would lead to depression and anxiety.) But also your thoughts influence your body to produce hormones/chemi cals. A pessimistic person would be depressed and have low serotonin levels, whereas an optimistic person would have high levels. Or if I thought everyone else lived perfect lives i would be depressed, etc.,
